This new position was created to improve internal systems, structures, and processes across all of our DEI consulting work - it’s a great opportunity for someone who is not a DEI consultant but is passionate about DEI and has a familiarity with DEI topics and discussions related and pertaining to systemic racism, oppression, white supremacy culture, equity, intersectionality, psychological safety, inclusion, and belonging.
As a DEI consulting firm, it’s important to us that we “walk the walk” and model the kinds of strategies we encourage our clients to integrate, including having an equitable and transparent compensation structure.
In fact, I’m also very excited to announce that we are adding some new benefits for all our employees including a rent stipend that recognizes the financial vulnerabilities that renters currently face compared to home owners in today’s market, and a student loan stipend that seeks to mitigate some of the impacts from this predatory system.
While we do not believe it is the responsibility of companies and organizations alone to address this systemic inequities, and while we don’t believe it is possible to NOT be complicit with these systems, we do believe we owe it not only to ourselves but to our clients who pay us to mitigate these impacts where we can.
This is especially true given that we know that those of us who are already traditionally and historically impacted by systems of oppression are often additionally targeted by these two particular systems in a compounding way that can be very hard to overcome. For Black and Indigenous communities in particular, generational wealth often ends up flowing upwards with younger generations financially supporting older generations, the living legacy of a country founded on slavery, stolen land and attempted genocide.
We often say that it’s not truly DEI work if it is at our expense as a team of women/women of color/gender-expansive people of color. There is always room for improvement and we, like any organization, are a work in progress but always excited to be able to make progress.
